Kindergarten Art Curriculum

Kindergarten art is an introduction to a variety of basic techniques, materials and skills. This is the year when the students first become introduced to famous artworks as well as art vocabulary. We focus primarily on three areas, elements of art, subject matter, and skills. Within these three areas, we use texture, shape, color, space, and pattern to create art. Kindergarten students make landscapes, portraits, abstract and non-objective art. Kindergarten Students create sculptures, draw, paint, print, weave, tear, cut and glue to make their art projects. The development of each of these skills is assessed using rubrics designed to measure lesson objectives. Fine motor development and direction following is key in Kindergarten.
